Hi! My name is Evan Lawton, and I am a sophomore in the South Carolina Honors College. When I am not in class, I love spending time with my friends, discovering new coffee shops and planning my next trip! After graduation, I plan to attend law school and pursue a career in education policy.

Why I chose the South Carolina Honors College
When deciding where I wanted to attend college, I focused on two main factors: the opportunities available to students and the campus environment. I ultimately chose the South Carolina Honors College because it offered the resources and opportunities of a flagship university alongside the close-knit community and unique experiences of an honors college. USC's beautiful campus and location made my decision even easier.
My advice for prospective students: Don't box yourself into a narrow career pathway! The Honors College is designed to give you the flexibility to explore your passions and discover new interests. It is great to have a general idea of what you want to do after graduation, but staying flexible and open to new experiences will help you get the most out of your college experience.
Favorite question during an information session: How should I manage my time at school?
It can be difficult at first! Before college, much of your schedule is made for you: you go to school during the day, participate in extracurriculars or sports, and you do homework in the evening. In college, much more of your time is left up to you. My advice is to build a consistent routine that works for you and use a calendar and assignment tracker to stay on top of your responsibilities!
Favorite Honors class: My favorite Honors class is SCHC 389: Principles of Leadership! The entire class revolved around guest speakers who shared their leadership journey. At the beginning of the semester, our instructor took into consideration each of our career goals in deciding who would come visit the class. Our visitors included a former governor, state agency directors and prominent lawyers from across the state.
