Hi! My name is Amelia, and I am a sophomore in both the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing and the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. I love staying busy and being involved in a variety of different organizations on campus, but in my free time I enjoy watching Formula 1, doing anything craft-related and trying new coffee shops! After graduation, I hope to attend graduate school to obtain either a master's in engineering or a Ph.D., hopefully in nuclear or biomolecular engineering.

Why I chose the South Carolina Honors College
Like a lot of prospective students, I had no idea where I wanted to go to college during my senior year of high school. I ended up going on so many college tours, and nothing seemed to stand out until I visited the Honors Admitted students day at South Carolina. I could tell how much the Ambassadors genuinely loved their Honors experiences, and I could feel how much the faculty truly cares and wants you to succeed. I knew that I wanted to be somewhere where I could get the benefits of a small, tight-knit academic community while also enjoying the perks of being at a large SEC school, and the South Carolina Honors College was the perfect place where I could do that!
My advice for prospective students: Don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone and try new things or take interesting classes, even if they have nothing to do with your major! You never know if it is something you will become passionate about, so if it interests you at all, just go for it!
Favorite question during an information session: Was it difficult coming into Honors as an out-of-state student?
Not at all! Naturally, I was nervous at first about meeting new people and fitting in because I came to USC knowing nobody, but I quickly realized that a lot of other people were in the same boat as me! Living in the Honors Residence Hall my freshman year allowed me to meet so many different people, both from in-state and out-of-state, and I ended up meeting my best friends and future roommates! While I know it can be intimidating, just stay true to yourself and you will find people who share your interests and values, especially within the Honors community!
Favorite Honors bucket list item or experience: First-Year Flotilla! It was a great way to get closer with my suitemates before classes started while also trying something I have never done before!
Something I'm proud of that's not on my resume: I was a competitive gymnast for 8 years! While I didn't pursue the sport past high school, it built a lot of character and taught me the importance of hardwork and dedication.
