Bio:
I am a doctoral candidate fascinated by the histories of twentieth-century United States popular culture, capitalism, and consumerism. My dissertation, tentatively titled “Blank Generations: The Cultural Crisis of New York Punk Rock, 1970–1997,” examines the evolution of punk culture in New York City from an interdisciplinary perspective that draws from cultural studies, ethnomusicology, and the new history of capitalism.
I write for a variety of publications with the aim of making history engaging and accessible for diverse audiences. You can read my public-facing work on cultural history, popular music, and the practice of history in Smithsonian, Current Affairs, Slate, PopMatters, Contingent, Perspectives on History, and the Journal of the History of Ideas Blog. As a committed public historian, I’ve interned or volunteered for ABC No Rio’s Zine Library, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the Fairfield Foundation, and the St. Andrews Heritage Museum and Garden.
